Creative Projects To Fund: Afro-Iran -The Unknown Minority Photo Book

Mahdi Eshaei is a 25 year old  German-Iranian photographer and designer based in Germany. Eshaei studied design at the Faculty of Design at the University of Applied Sciences Darmstadt.Mahdi has stumbled upon a fascinating group of african descendent people in Iran that were unknown to him and many others until he went to southern Iran to a soccer match. The experience of seeing a black or African featured man that spoke Persian and was a born Iranian sparked the search and the creative project to document these rare beautiful group of people of his culture! Mahdi has a an idea and book that will live on for centuries but he needs everyone help to raise about 12 thousand  dollars By June 13th!

Afro-Iran shows a side of Iran, which is widely unknown even to Iranians: a minority of people who influenced the culture of a whole region by continuing their African heritage with their clothing style, their music, their dance and their oral traditions and rituals. I set out to the Hormozgan Province in the Persian Gulf to shed some light on this part of Iran, which is home to the descendants of enslaved people and traders from Africa.

‘Afro-Iran’ reveals details documenting a centuries-long history of a community, which is often overlooked in Iran’s history, but which has even shaped the culture in Southern Iran.

Women Projects In The Works: Julie Dash’s “Travel Notes of Geechee Girl” Doc Feature Film

Legendary Filmmaker Julie Dash has graced us with a genius & creativity story once again with her latest project ” Travel Notes Of A Geechee Girl”! Many are probably thinking what is a Geechee girl? Geechee or Gallah are black people living in the Lowcountry region of Georgia and South Carolina, who have preserved their links to Africa arguably more than any other African-American group.  Julie is a Geechee Girl herself ,as she had shown us, in her ground breaking film “Daughters of The Dust” but this latest film isn’t about Julie at all.

Travel Notes of A Geechee Girl  is a new documentary feature film that chronicles the extraordinary life and multi-faceted career of self-proclaimed Geechee Girl, Vertamae Smart-Grosvenor. Personally I had never heard of Vertamee but as I watched the Crowdfund campaign video (below) realization soon came on why this woman story resonated with me and is vital to be told! The film will trace her journey and madcap adventures from the Lowcountry of South Carolina  to Europe and many other places. Vertamae was a Chef,Writer ,Actress and Activist story is one of a fearless, creative and imaginative woman who has dared to cross multiple boundaries and live her life out loud!

Born April 4, 1937 in Hampton County, South Carolina, Vertamae was strongly influenced by her Gullah Geechee community. She was also determined to follow her imagination and creativity beyond the Lowcountry. At the age of 10, Vertamae Smart moved with her family to Philadelphia. Although her existence was largely sheltered, she established friendships with the future poet Larry Neal, and Pulitzer Prize winning playwright Charles H. Fuller. There, she also met the up-and coming musician, Nina Simone, who encouraged her move to Paris.  Her story is a treasure trove of adventures, encounters and experiences with some of the most influential artists, writers, actors, and musical performers of the Twentieth Century. Vertamae’s basic knowledge of food preparation and Gullah culinary traditions served her well as she would go on to cross the Atlantic multiple times, in a journey that has taken her across five major cultural movements:

Beat Literary Movement
Black Power Movement
Black Arts Movement
New Black Cinema
Food as Cultural Memory

The project must raise 55k in the next month to complete this paramount project. Travel Notes of a Geechee Girl is relevant today because it speaks to the women who want to live their lives vibrantly and for people to understand these women and even learn from them! The Story also revolves around universal themes such as Food, Travel, Writing so its relatable for really everyone.

Travel x Fashion :Nomad Truck ( The wandering Fashion Boutique)

Instagram may very well be the best social network for marketing and gaining viewership for a brand which is why I search the site everyday for cool new creative businesses and entrepreneurs. Last night I came across this awesome innovative  pop up boutique which happens to be in a truck! The Fashion Truck is in reminisce to the food truck craze that happened a few years ago. The Nomad Truck is Free-Spirited space with a collection of funky boho fashion.I can see a certain type of woman who is strong, creative, savvy, intelligent, style-setting, a revolutionary type shopping here.

Nomad is NYC’s wandering fashion boutique offering a handpicked selection of ladies’ fashions from the back of a retrofitted delivery truck.Hop on board to find a carefully curated selection of funky and boho chic fashions plus a variety of locally sourced, handmade jewelry. An avid traveler, music junkie, and of course full-time fashionista, owner Jessie Goldenberg seeks to create an intimate shopping experience that’s a little bit gypsy, a little bit rock ‘n roll.On the road since April of 2013, Nomad is one of the first fashion trucks to service the greater NYC area. She can be found at street fairs, flea markets, colleges, and popping up on the streets of Flatiron, Soho, the Village, Hoboken, and beyond. Nomad also offers private party services, so grab the girls and make a night of it!

Founder/owner of Nomad Truck Jessie Goldenberg was a West Coast girl who went to film school before realizing her ultimate dream was to own a boutique on wheels. “I saw the trend happening out West about a year ago, popping up in Seattle and San Francisco,” Goldenberg says. “Owning my own little shop with local designers was on my list of life things.”

At the Nomad truck you will find  deals on handmade leather bags from Ghana, knuckle rings, floral crop tops with open bow backs ($38) and handmade J. White silkscreen scarves. “I buy at trade shows, brands that have a lower price point, from Ya Los Angeles and Bluebird,” says Goldenberg. “The next step would be to have Nomad branded clothing.” Prices range from $30-$100, though some bags are slightly more.

In February, the Nomad Truck took its talents on road and stopped all up & down the east coast as far as florida! The Nomad Truck was even featured on The Good Morning America show this morning! The Proof is in this post dreamers follow your vision its possible!

Often parked in SoHo and Hoboken, visit for to where the nomad truck is!
