Creative Projects To Fund: Afro-Iran -The Unknown Minority Photo Book

Mahdi Eshaei is a 25 year old  German-Iranian photographer and designer based in Germany. Eshaei studied design at the Faculty of Design at the University of Applied Sciences Darmstadt.Mahdi has stumbled upon a fascinating group of african descendent people in Iran that were unknown to him and many others until he went to southern Iran to a soccer match. The experience of seeing a black or African featured man that spoke Persian and was a born Iranian sparked the search and the creative project to document these rare beautiful group of people of his culture! Mahdi has a an idea and book that will live on for centuries but he needs everyone help to raise about 12 thousand  dollars By June 13th!

Afro-Iran shows a side of Iran, which is widely unknown even to Iranians: a minority of people who influenced the culture of a whole region by continuing their African heritage with their clothing style, their music, their dance and their oral traditions and rituals. I set out to the Hormozgan Province in the Persian Gulf to shed some light on this part of Iran, which is home to the descendants of enslaved people and traders from Africa.

‘Afro-Iran’ reveals details documenting a centuries-long history of a community, which is often overlooked in Iran’s history, but which has even shaped the culture in Southern Iran.

This book really intrigued me and pointed out some key issues young women growing up in today’s society  are facing. It is a Shes Vintage Approved Book that will without a doubt be a best seller! I had the pleasure of catching up with Hood Girls do it better”The Hood Girls A-Z Guide To Success” Author Epiphany Kendell. Below is  what she had to say about her book , life and more.

EK: I am from Astoria queens ny but Syracuse ny is my home away from home
SV:Who is your intended audience and why should they read your book?
EK:My intended audience are pre teens to 21-year-old that live in urban neighborhoods. they should read the guide to get insight on things they may encounter growing up in the inner city or thing they are currently going through and may need advice on how to get through it.
SV:How did you come up with the title of your book or series?
EK:I figured since it was a guide and targeted towards girls from the inner city ” hood girls” that the hood girls a-z guide to success is the perfect fit
SV: Tell us a little bit about your cover art. Who designed it? Why did you go with that particular image/artwork?
EK: for my cover I had a look that was more urban but as I started to get advice from professionals they suggested I clean it up a bit so I came up with the idea of shooting on a brownstone.
SV: Who or what has inspired you to become an author?
EK:I’ve always loved writing and english was the only subject Id excelled in. I have journals  in since 14 years old. so when my mom and i thought of the idea to give young girls advice on the things that ive been through it came natural.
SV: Give us an interesting fun fact or a few about your book or series:
EK there’s a self-love contract inside that has to be read and signed by a witness
SV: What makes your book beneficial to people?or what do you want your audience to learn from your book
EK: The book is beneficial because it touches on topics that people are afraid to discuss but are secretly going through. so its to help one feel as if they aren’t alone.

Kingpin to King of the Kitchen:Chef Jeff

Sunday is always my rest and revive day where I like to get my thought together for the week and plan out how I will continue to execute my ideas and projects on my journey. So through my resting I often watch Oprah’s life class or tv one black enterprise shows during the morning because I am often inspired by the stories they usually feature. The Past Sunday in particular I was astonished by Jeff Henderson’s story “Chef Jeff” on black enterprise. Chef Jeff is a critically acclaimed worlds best chef , has written books , and has a tv show yet I had never heard of him! Even more shocking is Chef Jeff’s whirlwind past  and 360 life change.

Chef Jeff Henderson’s incredible journey— from cocaine kingpin to head inmate cook to celebrated chef—has been a powerful inspiration to people who have struggled to find success when the odds are stacked against them. While in federal prison serving nearly ten years for drug trafficking, Chef Jeff gradually realized that his life was not over if he could find mentors, stop blaming others and take full responsibility for his future. When the positive results began to pour in, he knew he had to spread his message of hope and teach his techniques for personal and professional success.

Chef Jeff Story is quite inspirational to many but most importantly he is vital to men out in the world who have no hope or don’t see a future for themselves after prison or troubled past.  It is for sure not easy for men and especially men of color but Jeff’s story is sheer potent proof that you too can become everything you want to be because you hold the power! Men take the chance, leap out on faith and do whats right for you not any other man.

Are you a wanderer?

Words From A Wanderer by Alexander Elle is a timeless and beautiful compilation of notes and poetry. This book was created with hopes of uplifting and encouraging readers in many ways. There is a journal in the back of the book for readers and fellow writers to indulge in to keep the “conversation” going. Author, Alexandra Elle, wrote this book to shed light on the fact that indeed not all who wander are lost; some are simply still finding their way.

I have personally been following Alex on social media since her hair blog site. If you follow her on Twitter or instagram@Alex_Elle you will see her positive self notes and poetry is contagious. During many trying times in my life recently I have looked to her words for inspiration. Alex seems to be a very kindred soul with a gift of creativity and I connect with her as I am a poet myself. I look forward to reading this book and for all my viewers to read it too! Please send your thoughts, opinions and reviews in so we can discuss!
